Darren Mullen Appointed New Chairman of Newry City AFC
Newry City AFC have confirmed the appointment of Darren Mullen as the club’s new Chairman following the decision of long-serving Martin McLoughlin not to seek re-election at this year’s Annual General Meeting.

Mullen, a deeply respected figure at the club, was elected unopposed, bringing his trademark passion and long-standing commitment to this new leadership role. Outgoing Chairman McLoughlin and Vice-Chairman Gary Wilson officially welcomed Mullen into the post earlier this week.

Darren Mullen is no stranger to the Showgrounds faithful. Since the club’s reformation in 2013, he has twice served as first-team manager and his unwavering dedication to Newry City AFC well known across the community.

In a statement, the club said:
“Darren’s affinity and passion for the club has been apparent for all to see. We are delighted that the club will continue to be in safe hands through the challenging and, no doubt, rewarding times ahead.”
Martin McLoughlin, who played a pivotal role in guiding the club through a period of growth and stability, will remain involved, continuing to serve on the Management Committee and Development Team. He has also recently taken on stewardship of the club’s Academy Lottery, which is set to launch online soon.
Looking ahead, the club’s focus under Mullen’s leadership will centre on two key ambitions:
1. Developing the ground into a state-of-the-art facility for the local community, and
2. Returning to the level of football Newry City fans believe the club belongs at.
In his first statement as Chairman, Mullen expressed both gratitude and determination:
“I’m delighted and honoured to be voted in as Chairman of the club. Everyone knows how much Newry City means to me and I know there is a serious amount of work to be done both on and off the pitch.
My role is now to make sure that off the pitch is as successful as possible to bring that on-field success.
I want to assure the Newry City fans that I will give everything I have within this role to make that happen. That process has already started and I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead along with everyone else at the club.”
As a new chapter begins, supporters will take confidence knowing the club remains in passionate, experienced hands—with a shared vision for success both on the pitch and beyond it.
