Pipe Bomb Explosion in Mullaghbawn Under Investigation
Detectives in Newry have launched an investigation following a pipe bomb explosion in the Mullaghbawn area during the early hours of Friday, 27th June.

Police were alerted at around 1:00am after reports of a loud bang outside a property in the Sliabh Mór area. It is believed that at approximately 12:30am, a device suspected to be a pipe bomb was thrown at the front of a house, detonating on impact.
The explosion caused significant damage to the property, including broken windows and destruction to an outdoor railing. A young family was inside the house at the time of the attack but, fortunately, no one was injured. However, they have been left understandably shaken by the ordeal.
Detective Sergeant Johnston described the incident as “deeply concerning,” warning that devices of this nature can inflict damage well beyond their intended target.
The suspected device has been removed for forensic examination, and detectives are working to establish a motive for the attack.
