A man is being treated in hospital after disturbing 2 burglars in his Newry home.
Police say he was attacked with a hammer and a machete in the Violet Hill area of the city around 8pm on Wednesday evening.
A 40 year old man has been arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of aggravated burglary, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit and indictable offence.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) are continuing with investigations and have asked for anyone with information to come forward
