Large crowds gathered on O’Connell Street Dublin for what was to be a hoax Halloween parade on Thursday evening.
A website posting details of the event and numerous posts and videos on social media led people to believe that the parade was actually taking place along Parnell Square and ending up at Christchurch Cathedral.
Online rumours claimed that a parade would be held on the city’s main thoroughfare from 7pm until 9pm on Halloween night.
It is now known that this was a highly elaborate prank and Gardai have confirmed that no such event was planned.
The Thousands of people that lined the proposed parade route were told to disperse safely by the Gardai as the hoax parade was never going to take place.
